BIOGRAPHY

DR. ADÁN ALEJÁNDRO FERNÁNDEZ is a versatile musician and educator, excelling as an organist, harpsichordist, collaborative pianist, choral and orchestral conductor, composer, and writer. A dedicated liturgical musician, Dr. Fernández serves as the Director of Music and Organist at Holy Family Catholic Church in Glendale, California. There, he has established a comprehensive music program that includes three adult choirs, a choral academy for children, a handbell choir, and a chamber ensemble.


In addition to his church duties, Dr. Fernández is the University Organist and a piano faculty member at California Lutheran University. He has cultivated a studio of young organists and oversees a recital series featuring an international roster of organists. He also initiated the Afternoon Bach Recital Series, which showcases music by the Bach family and other Baroque composers each month. 
Dr. Fernández is also a member of the Music Theory faculty at the Colburn School of Music in Los Angeles and performs as a harpsichordist with Hortus Musicus, an early music consort.


Dr. Fernández has published choral music with MusicSpoke and GIA Publications, focusing on Latin American and indigenous composers. He has given presentations on Latin American sacred music in Colombia and for the Hymn Society, along with presentations in London and Canada. As a writer, he has published in CrossAccent Journal, Religions Journal, ChorTeach, and Reformed Worship, including topics such as worship, liturgy, composers, and theology.


As a performer, Dr. Fernández has played harpsichord and organ with the New West Symphony, West Village Orchestra, and Symphony of the Verdugos, among other ensembles across California. He is also the Artistic Director and founder of the Glendale Youth Symphony, a non-profit organization supported by the Colburn Foundation. Dr. Fernández holds degrees in pipe organ performance and piano performance, as well as a doctorate in Sacred Music from the University of Southern California.
